Soups & Stews

Soup is fantastic. On a cold rainy winter day, there’s nothing more comforting. Well, maybe hot chocolate with Baileys is. But that’s hardly dinner. Maybe breakfast.

Soup is not only warming (or refreshing if it’s a cold summer soup) but has lots of other perks: Vegetable based soups are filled with vitamins and whatever else the vegetable has to offer. High water content means it fills you with fewer calories, if that’s a concern. For male significant others who complain soup isn’t dinner, I recommend baking some bread with it. Soups can also easily be kept in the fridge for a few days or the freezer for, ever, really. I usually keep a mason jar full of one in the freezer to bring to work for lunch or heat up for dinner when I’m home late or just lazy. Make sure the soup has completely cooled before you put it into the fridge or freezer, not just for energy saving reasons, but also because it can explode otherwise. I may or may not speak from experience. Soup and stews are also easy to make for a lot of people, as long as you have a big pot. Most of the stew recipes are for crockpots/slowcookers but could be made in a pot if you don’t have one. Really, I’d recommend buying a slowcooker, they are fantastic.

To find a recipe, use the search engine on the top right hand corner. Key words are enough, so type in “soup” for soup recipes or “tomato” for any recipe using tomatoes.
